FUNDING FAIR
The
third
Funding Fair held in Carlisle to attract thousands of pounds for local
organisations has been hailed a success.
More
than 150 people from local village halls, cultural groups, young people’s
organisations and others attended the event at Carlisle Race course.
They
were hoping to attract funding from Cumbria Community Foundation, Northern Rock
Foundation, local authorities, The Big Lottery, and other funding sources.
Last year’s event generated bids of nearly £1 million.
New for this year presentations from Sport England, Heritage Lottery Fund and The Big Lottery, also new were discussion forums with funders for Village Halls/Community Building , Children & Youth Groups and those interested in enviromental projects
People found being able to speak face to face with funders as the most useful part of the day. This is also extremely useful for funders as they gained a much better feel for the types of projects that are important to people in Carlisle District.
Many groups said they were keen to follow up the event with more detailed training to sharpen their skills in developing successful projects and applications. These techniques will help ensure they give their project the edge in what is an increasingly competitive funding world.
