Carlisle CVS Centenary Conference “Rising to the Challenge”

Thursday 7 October 2004 at Shepherd’s Inn, Rosehill, Carlisle

This conference was planned to both showcase the voluntary sector and also highlight current trends and future challenges and opportunities for the sector. It was attended by delegates from all sectors – voluntary, statutory and business and from districts across Cumbria

The morning speakers were Stuart Etherington, Director NCVO, “Valuing the Voluntary Sector” and Martin Horton, Director, Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) “ Preparing for the Challenges Ahead”

The afternoon small group sessions were focused on “Regionalisation”, “Maintaining Independence” and “Diversity”.

Discussions and feedback from the event have been very positive with several ideas suggested fro future work.

The North Cumbria Health Compact was also officially launched at the conference (see separate news item)

Following the conference, the final AGM of the old unincorporated organisation “Carlisle Council for Voluntary Service” was held. (The organisation has now become a Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable Status - since April 2004).

A full report from the conference containing transcripts, presentation handouts and feedback will be produced and made available on this website by December 2004.
