Carlisle CVS Centenary
Conference “Rising to the Challenge”
Thursday 7 October 2004 at
Shepherd’s Inn, Rosehill, Carlisle
This
conference was planned to both showcase the voluntary sector and also highlight
current trends and future challenges and opportunities for the sector. It was
attended by delegates from all sectors – voluntary, statutory and business and
from districts across Cumbria
The
morning speakers were Stuart Etherington, Director NCVO, “Valuing the
Voluntary Sector” and Martin Horton, Director, Improvement and Development
Agency (IDeA) “ Preparing for the Challenges Ahead”
The
afternoon small group sessions were focused on “Regionalisation”,
“Maintaining Independence” and “Diversity”.
Discussions
and feedback from the event have been very positive with several ideas suggested
fro future work.
The
North Cumbria Health Compact was also officially launched at the conference (see
separate news item)
Following
the conference, the final AGM of the old unincorporated organisation “Carlisle
Council for Voluntary Service” was held. (The organisation has now become a
Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable Status - since April 2004).
